I was a praise leader, whenever I sang people would manifest – Yo Maps

ELTON Mulenga alias Yo Maps has revealed that he was once a praise member who used to sing in church and people would manifest evil spirits and others could starting praying.

He said when he took the stage in church, people would sing along and others could start manifesting.

Mulenga shared this during a candid appearance on the KenT Podcast recently where he opened up about his past life leading to the status where he is now being called international artiste.

Yo Maps said his music journey started in church, it started when he was a praise leader at Bread of Life Church in Chibombo, where he used to sing and play a guitar.

He said his music career started way back in Chiyuni, where he met his saviour who helped him excel in his music.

“I have come very far with my music, I manage to do what I do by the grace of God, on my own I cannot do it.”

“After my mother died, I went to Chiyuni where I started putting songs in cards for customers, and it was there I realized that I could sing,” he said.

Mulenga said it was through music that led him to meet a couple he now calls his parents after they adopted him about 20 years ago.

He narrated that he has never seen his biological father because he died when he was quite young in Kasama.

“I have never seen my dad, because he died.I left Kasama with my mom and went to Lusaka, and after sometime my mother died. The people that I call my parents now are not my biological parents,” he said.

He said he calls them his parents because they took him to school and took good care of him for more than 20 years.

Mulenga recalled when his mother died, and after the funeral they called for “insambo Lyamfwa” a meeting where relatives decided whom they will get between him and his young sister.

“We are only two in my family, and after the funeral my sister was gotten by my dad’s younger brother in Kasama, the remaining uncles refused to get me saying they had boy children whom already gave them pressure,” he said.

Mulenga said he remained alone and he started moving around and could eat from different places to get a meal.

He said his life changed when a good Samaritan, Muyunda Mundia, a police officer took him in as his own child.

“Mr Mundia could hear me sing whenever he comes to buy things at a shop back then in Chiyuni, Central Province and one day he took me in after some wrangles [erupted from] where I used to stay.”

“He is not my biological father, he is Mundia and I am Mulenga.”

“I left Chiyuni and went to Chibombo, where Mr Muyunda introduced me to his wife and children who became my brothers and sisters, and upto to today they are like my parents,” he said.

Mulenga said it was by the grace of God that someone who isn’t his relative took him in and sponsored him to school.

“Right now I can do anything for my parents.”

He said his real relatives started resurfacing after he became famous and started posting on social media how he has abandoned them.

“A number of them started coming and posting on social media that “anatilekelela” meaning he has abandoned us, I don’t really pay attention to such because I have lived without them for the past 20 years and nobody called me.”

“Otherwise, it is all about the grace of God, even me I didn’t know that I will be here today, I am here by the Grace,β€š
