SAD: 28-year-old woman of Mansa allegedly hacks her two sons to death with a hoe!
A 28-year-old woman of Chapuswike Village in Chief Chimese’s Chiefdom of Mansa District has allegedly murdered her two children aged four years and one month using a hoe.
Luapula Province Police Commanding Officer, Mr. Stephen Palaata, confirmed the incident to PTV2 news.
Mr. Palaata said Senama Police Post received a report of the suspected murder on June 22, 2026, at around 11:30 hours from Mary Chama, aged 53, the grandmother of the deceased children.
The victims have been identified as four-year-old Amos Taizya Simukoko and one-month-old Paul Nkole.
Police officers who rushed to the scene found the bodies lying lifeless on a blood-stained mattress inside their mother’s house.
A blood-stained hoe believed to have been used in the attack was also recovered near the bodies.
According to police, Amos sustained a deep cut wound on the right side of the head, while baby Paul suffered facial injuries and was bleeding from the mouth and nostrils.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the children’s biological mother, Gladys Kapya, may have been responsible for the killings, although the motive remains unknown.
Meanwhile, Mary Chama, the mother of the accused, disclosed that Gladys and her twin sister had previously experienced minor mental health challenges.
She further explained that since giving birth to her second child about a month ago, Gladys had not been her usual self and had become increasingly withdrawn and less active.
Police have since deposited the bodies at Mansa General Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Mr. Palaata added that the suspect has been taken for medical assessment to determine her mental condition as investigations into the matter continue.
