SEVEN ARRESTED IN KASAMA FOR THEFT OF ZESCO COPPER CABLES AND STOLEN PROPERTY
Seven people, among them two Chinese nationals have been arrested in Kasama for the suspected theft of ZESCO Copper cables and unlawful possession of suspected stolen property worth undisclosed amounts of money.
Northern Province Police Commanding Officer LUCKY MUNKONDYA has disclosed to the media that the arrests were made on WEDNESDAY 9TH July 2025 after a tip from public, working together with ZESCO security personnel.
Of the 7 suspects, two are residents of Kasama’s Mukulumpe area while the other 5 are from Lusaka , believed to be working for a Lusaka-based Chinese company, TONGDA ELECTRONICS.
Ms. MUNKONDYA explains that during the operation, police recovered over 40 kilograms of burnt copper cables suspected to have been stolen from ZESCO, more than 50 kilograms of other copper cables, and about 60 kilograms of assorted damaged smart phones and screens, along with computer and cell phone panels weighing 76 kilograms.
All seven suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
AND ZESCO Principal Engineer Maintenance EUSTACE SIMUCHINDO has lamented the rise in cases of vandalism and theft of ZESCO installations in Northern Province saying this is a cost to not only households but the nation as well.
ENGINEER SIMUCHINDO has since urged households to be alert for and report all suspicious activities to the police
